On the seventh floor of Marui One Shinjuku – behind the sea of glorious Gothloli shoes – there is a discombobulating René Magritte dreamscape. Wait, what?

Ceci n’est pas une pipe. This is not a Japanese avantgarde minimalist display.

Believe it or not, it’s the Alice Auaa boutique. In the old Marui, the much-lauded designer’s deconstructed-Gothic designs were also concealed (here’s a photo for comparison) and guarded by tortured gargoyles. The new shop’s interior design amps up the surrealism: you weave between floating white doors until you meet a limb-less female. She sticks out her tongue in ecstasy as she is auto-erotically asphyxiated by an Alice Auaa scarf.

This fellow reminds me of my pre-teen years, when I wore headgear to straighten my buckteeth. Alice Auaa’s S&M and fetish-influenced accessories are strewn on a table held up by Thing. Whether or not you like her clothes, you’ve got to visit Alice Auaa’s surrealist store. It’s easy to miss so look hard!

On August 28 2009 Danish Minister of Culture Carina Christensen presented the Time to design – new talent award 2009 at the National Workshops for Arts and Crafts.

The jury selected two talented young designers: Hunn Wai and Francesca Lanzavecchia, as winners of the talent award from more than 35 different countries all over the world.

The two will meet in Scandinavia to take on the challenging task: their winning project "Spaziale Series: New expressions of skin and structure". The project that is based on voids, skin and structure. Taking inspiration from fashion, architecture and human behaviours, they will amalgamate those inputs, according to their vision, into a new breed of interior objects that will question our perception on the rituals of possessions storage and ecology-awareness within furniture manufacture, distribution and construction.

Wai & Lanzavecchia began the cooperation at the Design Academy Eindhoven, where both studied IM Master (Interior / Industrial / Identity Design) under the management of Gijs Bakker, co-founder of Droog Design.

Dogging is a new sex trend which started in Britain, people having sex in public places especially in cars who are open to an audience and interaction with others. Although dogging has been growing in popularity for the last couple of years, it only reached the mainstream when soccer player Stan Collymore, one of Britain’s most famous athletes, admitted to attending numerous dogging meets.

I recently had a chance to learn about dogging when I was invited on set to shoot stills for a film based on dogging called ‘Walking The Dog’ directed by Luigi Campi and produced by Stephanie Sellars.

Wallpaper just released their July issue on the subject of sex and the erotic. Naturally they asked us to be involved and turn my Alphabunnies into an appetising new alphabet of lovely ladies. As Airside’s resident sexpert in drawing naughty girls, I couldn’t wait to start on it. You can now have a peek at some initial sketches.

Where did my obsession start…mmmmhhhh For a start I have a french perverted mind but really it all started when I was a kid. Everyday I would draw princesses and pretty girls. There were no boys in my sketchbooks: hips and curves were much more dramatic and fun (many of you would agree I am sure). As a teenager it became a kind of compulsive doodle habit that kept me entertained in school. I could do them with my eyes closed and of course I gave them away to the boys who were suddenly more interested in my drawings. When I joined Airside two years ago I was the only girl designer in the middle of a lovely big boy’s designer club! At one point I was trying to come up with an idea for a print for our shop and I ended up going back to my habit of drawing sexy girls. I was happy. The boys were happy.

When Wallpaper commissioned us to do something for their Sex and Art issue, they said they’d like something along the line of Alphabunnies. I decided to go with 50’s pin ups instead of animal hybrids and to create a new set of letters.

The idea here is to pare down my initial drawings as much as possible graphically, using negative space for their bodies. I have to confess I kept my favorite letter from the Alphabunnies – the G – and explored other ways to design the rest of the letters. I feel this set is more organic and the poses are more sophisticated than Alphabunnies but the spirit remains the same: sexy Amazons exploring the joys of foreplay.

Now you can get your hands on limited edition prints of each of the individual letters of our erotic alphabet. You can see a sensuous selection of lascivious letters here.

Each letter is a limited edition of 10 and the prints are only available until the end of July, so like a rampant rabbit, get in there quick.

Finally have a look at the animation that our very gifted animator Maki did for the website. After animating the alphabunnies and these lovely ladies, she is now my second in command when it comes to bringing the pin-ups to life.

+ Terry Rodgers / Rodgers’ current work focuses on portraying contemporary body politics. His rendering of the upper-class leisure life stands as an iconic vision of today’s society. The resulting paintings are not snapshots or slices of life, not verite records of actual moments in actual party or family situations, or diaristic records of his life, but carefully constructed and composited fictions, designed to elicit the most meaning and sustain the maximum amount of ambiguity.

Terry Rodgers attended Amherst College, with a major in the Fine Arts. His strong interest in film and photography influenced his style in the direction of representational realism in art. Terry Rodgers is an internationally recognized artist who has worked and lived in Massachusetts, Washington, DC, and Ohio.

His first solo European museum exhibition opened May, 2009. In addition, his work has been represented in numerous museum group exhibitions in Europe between 2006 and 2009. In 2007, his work appeared in Art Basel. And in 2005, three of his monumental figurative canvases were presented at the Valencia Biennial.

Abroad he has had solo exhibitions in galleries in Amsterdam, Zurich, and Milan, andparticipated in group shows around the world. He will have an upcoming exhibition in Brussels in 2009. In the United States, he has had solo gallery exhibitions in New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Chicago.

Over the past few years, he has also exhibited at numerous museums in the US including the Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville, theBakersfield Museum of Art, the Erie Art Museum, the Mobile Museum of Art, and the Midwest Museum of American Art. Abroad, his work has been exhibited at the Stedelijk Museum-Hertogenbosch, the Kunsthalle der Hypo-Kulturstiftung in Munich, the Museum Franz Gertsch in Burgdorf, the Museum Folkwang in Essen, the Scheringa Museum of Realist Art in Spanbroek and at the Kunsthal Rotterdam.

Terry’s new book, Terry Rodgers — Dimensions of Ambiguity, was released in May 2009. Terry Rodgers — The Apotheosis of Pleasure, was released in December 2006. Both books were published by TORCH Books of Amsterdam. Also, Rodgers has been featured in numerous publications in America and abroad including Die Welt, Art in America, Citizen K, German GQ, Kunstbeeld, Arte, Art and FLAUNT to name a few.

On fun eco-friendly toys i stumbled upon while toy shopping recently (and then had to buy to share!) ~ Check out this E-Racer (the name is also hilarious) ~ made from cut bamboo tubes, it's cute to see how closely it keeps its form! It claims that it is "Naturally fun" and made with bamboo, water based colors, and renewable materials (i assume they mean the metal screws and the plasticy exhaust, and rubbery wheels)... the packaging was horrible, so if i ever end up gifting one of these to a kid, will definitely unwrap it first! This Just Inbox: Brilliant articulated clock by Sander and Mulder

Core-fave Sander Mulder (previously featured on core here and here), has just released Continue Time. The clock's second hand rotates around the minute hand, which rotates around the hour hand, creating a dynamic, kinetic sculpture that can, amazingly, still be read like a normal clock. Made of brass and aluminum, the clock is available from the designer in a limited edition of 25.

The idea for this design started with a move. Sander explains below:

While moving to a new house our clock was damaged severely in transport, to a point where it's minutes- and seconds pointer fell of the central axis, and where just laying in the transparent bubble cover. Witnessing the random patterns that occurred with the hour pointer still rotating, the first concept for the Continue Time clock was born.

Our homies over at Format did a dope interview with clothing brand T.I.T.S. Yes, that’s the name. Read on to find out more…

With a name like T.I.T.S. and designs that feature nude or semi-nude women, it’s without a doubt that this brand thrives on pushing the envelope. At first glance one would expect this collection of tees to be all about inappropriate and raunchy images targeted towards sex crazed men. Well, surprisingly enough this is not the case. Two in the Shirts (T.I.T.S.), is not only defined by the owners as refined and edgy, but adored and sported by an abundance of female fans. The brands sole focus is to bring tastefully provocative clothing to the forefront of fashion. Snubbing negative critics and pissed-off women, owner and founder Marek Grubel continues to dream up shocking concepts for those who radiate style and have a strong sense of self-confidence.

“The acronym was created while drinking Mickey’s, eating macaroni salad from 7-11 and drawing in our sketch books. We have a lot of other ones such as ‘Till I Turn Seventy’ and ‘Tiffany Is That Sperm.”

Format: Please state who you are and you role at T.I.T.S.
Marek Grubel: My name is Marek Grubel and I am the owner/founder of T.I.T.S. Brand ‘Two in the Shirt’.

Format: Give us a brief history of the line.
Marek Grubel: T.I.T.S. started off in 2005 as a graffiti crew named ‘trapped in the system’ with one of its acronyms being ‘two in the shirt’. It only made sense to start a clothing line with a title like that. At the time, a lot of apparel for men had butterflies and flowers as designs and I just couldn’t get into that type of style. ‘Sex sells’ is the motto and we have just run with it.

Format: T.I.T.S., which stands for ‘Two in the Shirt’ is pretty fitting considering most of the graphics feature nude or semi-nude women. Was it coincidence, or did you endlessly brainstorm until you found a brand name that fit this acronym?
Marek Grubel: The acronym was created while drinking Mickey’s, eating macaroni salad from 7-11 and drawing in our sketch books. We have a lot of other ones such as ‘Till I Turn Seventy’ and ‘Tiffany Is That Sperm’.

Format: How would you describe the T.I.T.S. target customer?
Marek Grubel: It is hard to define our target customer. As we brand and market the line we go for the confident, stand out type. Basically someone who can wear a bold print and it won’t seem out of place for their personality.

Format: Tell us about the design process of your graphics. What are some inspirations behind your concepts?
Marek Grubel: We draw on everyday life and never look to other brands for inspiration. For example, I came up with the wifey design after a bad relationship with a woman who didn’t do shit around the house. For me, at the time, wifey meant a woman who could drink and do housework.

Format: Have you ever dreamt up a concept that you deemed too shocking to bring to fruition? If so, what was it?
Marek Grubel: We mocked up a design with a naked girl on a cross and called it ‘Shesus’. We are still deciding on whether or not we should come out with it. Basically the concept is that religion is a bitch to deal with. I know it would really offend a lot of people. For the most part we keep our designs cutting edge and classy.

Format: What would you say to critics who find your provocative imagery inappropriate or offensive?
Marek Grubel: Go find another cause to focus your time and effort on. I usually don’t respond to the hate emails I get from pro-women rights groups and pissed off women.

Format: Tell us about ‘Good Karma Bad Karma’ and the experience of collaborating with Karmaloop.com on the project.
Marek Grubel: I had a blast with that project. Kelly was really professional and easy to deal with. Basically, we would always ask for her to be the model for our clothes when they were featured on karmaloop. It dawned on me that every male I know who shops on karmaloop loves her, so we collaborated and it became a huge success. Look out for the follow-up tee called ‘Karma’s a Bitch’.

Format: You thrive on pushing the envelope. I read that an upcoming collaboration will be with top adult film stars. Can you elaborate on this project and what we can expect from it?
Marek Grubel: We bought a retail booth at the AEE (Adult Entertainment Expo) and sold tees there. We were situated across from the bangbros.com booth and all the girls wanted to know why they weren’t on a shirt yet. So the natural thing to do was to put them on our tees. We are able to sell in any market and the porn industry is an 18 billion dollar a year market; we just want 1% of it.

Format: Would you say that your consumer base is male dominated, or has there been a good response from women as well?
Marek Grubel: 30% of our sales come from women alone. The women who buy our clothing are super fashionable and usually sexy and confident enough to wear another woman on their chest.

Format: Tell us about the mix CD’s offered for purchase on your site. Who creates these mixes and what kind of sound do they offer?
Marek Grubel: We do our mixes with DJ Mr. Supreme. We try to come up with classic mixes rather than new age music mixes that will be irrelevant in 2 months.

Format: What’s next for T.I.T.S.?

To most of us, American Apparel looked like the number one success story of recent years - proving that is possible to combine ethical manufacture with very on-trend clothing and warp-speed expansion. The one label you could buy without any misgivings apart from maybe a slight ‘ouch’ at the prices. Therefore it will no doubt come as a surprise to most people that the retailer of high-fashion tights and T-shirts is cash-poor and faces two key financial deadlines this month. It’s crunch time for American Apparel.

Following an expensive refinancing in December, American Apparel must raise 16 million US dollars in new financing by Friday in order to avoid issuing warrants for two million shares to lender SOF Investments, to which it owes 51 million US dollars. American Apparel already issued warrants for one millions shares to SOF in December, plus fees of 2.6 million US dollars, under terms of its refinancing.  More critical is a March 21 deadline to renew or extend the April 20 maturity date of the SOF loan. If American Apparel cannot renegotiate the loan by that date, 60.6 million US dollars under a Bank of America credit facility would immediately become due. Additionally, if and when that SOF agreement is extended, American Apparel must make a 3.5 million Us dollars amortization payment to SOF, with another 12.6 million Us dollars due on April 20.  American Apparel’s cash squeeze was highlighted by a 4 million US dollars loan that founder and chief executive Dov Charney made to the company on 10th February, according to Securities and Exchange Commission documents. That borrowing was on top of a 2.5 million US dollars loan he made to American Apparel in December. Both loans were made at an annual interest rate of 6 percent. Clearly those loans are a sign of desperation for the company. As of Sept. 30, American Apparel had 13.9 million US dollars in cash on it balance sheet against 111.6 million US dollars in debt.  It goes without saying that this is the worst credit environment since the Great Depression and for American Apparel to be dependent on creditors is a terrible position. Apparently, this is reflected in the stock price, which shows investors believe the company is a candidate for bankruptcy - despite its positive performance at retail - due to its highly leveraged position and dependency on lenders.  American Apparel shares closed down 22 cents at 1.37 US dollars on Monday, well off their 52-week high of 11.90 US dollars.  Dov Charney declined to comment on American Apparel’s financing activities, but noted: ‘I am very confident about our company. I am feeling great about the business and believe we will have a fantastic year.’  American Apparel opened 81 stores last year, and in February opened three more units - in Miami Beach, Fla., Bleecker Street in New York and Stockholm, bringing the total worldwide door count to over 260. However, its lenders have forced the company to limit capital expenditures this year to 17.8 million US dollars, which will slow store openings

Please meet Mário Fonsec, a 33 year-old artist from Lisbon, Portugal better known as theSIGNer.

Bio sent to us:

Mário graduated in Industrial Design in 2005 at the late age of 30 which sadly for him makes job hunting very difficult, especially in a area where there’s no (artistic) investment in his country. He then started learning to use graphic software such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to try and find a design related job in the graphic arena. It didn’t work, but it made him find a style of his own. He opened up an account on DeviantArt by influence from his friend Marta, an industrial design student, that he met at his “desk job.” Needing a handle on Deviantart, and other many internet artist’s communities, he named himself theSIGNer - the one that makes signs that mean something and get seen and understood by all. The first comments about his work were encouraging so, he started to produce more and more… always trying to make it better than the one before. Two years later, he still doesn’t have a design related job but, he’s trying to learn more skills, adapting and evolving and hoping that somewhere someone discovers him and offers him the chance to shine.

:mlzd architect has created an extension for the Wettingen School. The extension consists to built a new cafeteria while respecting the existing building.
The building envelope, composed of a homogeneous coverage of black anodized aluminium sheets, plays with the light that seeps between the silhouettes of the flowers and leafs cut out of the aluminium sheets. The new cafeteria has a rural character and part of a the conceptual and formal analogy with the traditional farm, which makes the volume, types and structural features of the interior space.

But that was child’s play compared to the great opus of short cinema above, in which MAC Cosmetics obviously takes a cue from our post to re-enact the Sanrio version of Alice in Wonderland (itself a brilliant re-interpretation of the 1971 classic novel), in full rubber gear. Want to really fall down rabbit hole? Complete the circle. Re-enact the re-enactment. Our guide to making it happen, below.

Before you even buy the first bag of cotton candy, memorize the Necronomicon. Otherwise you’re going to be wasting thousands of dollars on mere cosplay folly, and that’s not what this is about. This sacred ritual requires the aforementioned 900 bags of cotton candy (dollar store!), one anorexic virgin (dollar store!), one black cat (use Clairol Silken Black only), Grace Slick (dead or alive; it’ll work better if she’s dead, though), 25 kilograms of LSD (or 5 YouTube hours of Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Good Job, if you’re broke), the most racist golf course you can find, and one giant inflatable vagina. Before the ritual, purify yourself with thrift store douche under the full rose-fingered moon and sprinkle the shimmering dust of a crushed Katy Perry CD in a circle around yourself and your 12 naked, glistening, totem-headed disciples. Shit’s about to go down.

Of course, none of this will work without proper ritual garb. The catsuit in the MAC Masterpiece was created by Atsuko Kudo, and they’re willing to replicate this sacred garment to any Initiate seeking to penetrate the soft parts of the world. But the real trick here is the animal heads, and that’s where MAC failed to bring about the destruction of mankind. They thought they could bring humanity to an end merely with the force of Hello Kitty… and though Hello Kitty is strong, the Great Old Ones will only listen if Pikachu, Astro Boy, Duracell Bunny and the great Callisto all call out ot them in union. That is the secret that we open to you on this great night. Now go. Go with haste. Make us proud.

Once again MAKE Magazine turns us on to something fantastic: the sculpture of Susy Oliveira. I have to say I haven’t seen anything like this before, and there is something, like the original MAKE poster said, that reminds me of the dead bodies in various video games. While that’s just a fleeting reference–Oliveira is an new Canadian artist doing work across several fields, and this is just one of them–it’s the one that caught my attention.

What is it about taking computer-inspired shapes and forms, like the constrictions of polygons, and pulling them out into the open world? Why is this fascinating? Art historians (and I am definitely not one of them) could insert these works somewhere along the “history of sculpture” timeline, tracing influences of certain movements without ever touching the computerized aspect of it. But that very connection to computerization is what makes all the difference: these are photos, printed out and sculpted on top of foam in such a way that they resemble the simplistic polygons of the first three-dimensional games (think Virtua Fighter).

What I’d really love to do is have the chance to see this work in person, where I could walk around it and see it from varying angles, which is obviously a large part of the work’s significance: each piece of the surface has a series of separate angles created by the polygons, which make even something as simple as a pair of jeans seem strange and unreal.

The appeal of all these projects still gets me thinking: does their appeal come solely from their nods to computer-based design? Game designers had to use primitive, obvious polygons during the initial stages of 3d-game design, and 8-bit games were constrained into using the pixel as building block. Now, are the children who grew up with those generations clamouring for artistic representations of those childhood touchstones in a more mature context?

Well, that’s one way of putting it, and at the moment that’s how I approach these things at first–they hit a series of nostalgic buttons, and if the art can remain interesting beyond that, then I can cast any nods to a pre-existing, even video-game related concept aside and look for more. And there seems to be plenty here.

Product Photography Like You’ve Never Seen

I was recently turned on to the absolutely killer commercial photography of Mitchell Feinberg. An American working in both Paris and New York, he does some of the best product photography around. Check out these examples.

I struggled to find my favourite examples from his site for this article, as there were tons of them. The most striking ones are these recent pieces of work for Muse Magazine, which are technically advertisements or product photography, for products that have been scultuped out of a kind of mold. It’s as though their imprint was left perfectly inside drying cement, only dozens of times more detailed.

The polo shirt is an especially striking example, and each one from this series gives a strangely satisfying emboss to these handbags, watches, and wallets. I love the fact that each product is entirely drained of colour and essential shape, and the photo is as much about the cracked texture and broken surface of the environment around the indent as it is about the prouduct being represented.

Here’s something I never thought I’d be stunned by: makeup and cosmetics photography. Feinberg makes this stuff look luxurious and entirely alien. Flipping through a fashion magazine, stuff like this might get missed, but when seen as part of his impressive portfolio, it’s some beautiful work.

This red/blue combination is especially beautiful–he’s turned lipstick and… that blue thing (what kind of makeup is that, anyway? I’m clueless) into what looks like an unconventional homage to abstract painting.

And then there’s his food photography, which I’m still unsure about. He approaches it with the same eye he lends to the cosmetics, which means much of it looks alien and interesting, and hits you with a fresh burst of the unexpected. That’s good, but does it make me want to eat what he’s shooting? Not exactly, but I don’t think that one set of criteria is all that matters. A lot of this work is for the New York Times Magazine, which publishes some of the best food writers in the country, and they’re not always writing about how delicious and fun it is to eat things.

For some reason the aesthetics of Feinberg’s embossed series made me think of this model by Hans Op De Beeck that I stumbled upon recently, which is just a rapid-prototyped (unless it’s entirely computer-generated–I can’t tell) model of a modernist, Le Corbusier-styled apartment flat, only with additional touches like satellite dishes on every balcony and the first signs of decay. It occupies the space between real life and Corbusier’s blueprints: a pristine white model of what his famous designs eventually became. De Beeck calls it a “silent witness to the crumbling of modern thought.” Sure, why not?

Beautiful Art Cars, Designed by Warhol and Lichtenstein, Hit America

Back in the 1970s, the French racer Herve Poulain came up with the great idea to have an American artist paint his car. Instead of choosing someone who would do a relatively standard, acceptable, and OK job, he chose Alexander Calder, who created the memorable piece of work you see above. Although Calder died just a year later, he started a movement in art and car design that continues to this day.

While it’s not a grand, sweeping, big-time art trend, it is something that marries the otherwise little connected worlds of professional racing and contemporary art. Although many modern car designers can rightfully be called artists, and many of the designers as far back as the 1950s were creating cars that still look like masterpieces today, it wasn’t until this pairing that we started to see the car-as-canvas.

BMW decided to remain in the spotlight, and comissioned several other prominent artists to do their own cars. Not only are the cars themselves fantastically adapted to this sort of thing (there’s just something about that 1970s BMW racing design that holds a coat of unconvential paint so much better than, say, a Porsche), but the works of art created are quite memorable, too.

Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Rauschenberg, Frank Stella, and Andy Warhol all contributed work, and at the moment there are only 16 of these BMW art-cars in total. They’ve recently been sent on tour, and after short residences in Korea and Russia, they’re currently in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. They’re staying just until February 24th, after which they’re headed to New York and Mexico.

These cars are normally on display at the BMW museum in Munich, and the coolest thing about them is that most were actually used in races. I would pay to see someone racing an Andy Warhol car, I would, even though the Frank Stella one (above) is actually the most impressive.

This put me in mind of some other recent “art cars” we’ve seen, and we thought it a good idea to round them up here:

The aforementioned Ferrari Testarossa from 1957 isn’t an art car, but it should be. Just look at that detailing: it’s a 1950s (Italian) idea of what the future would look like, except it hasn’t gone out of style in any way.

Some recent new forumla 1 rules mean that the cars have to be completed redesigned, but look, the McLaren team car actually looks pretty awesome! Straight out of the damn future, I say.

Chris Gilmour has done up some very fine cardboard models of the Fiat 500 and the Aston Martin DB5. No, these aren’t just little models, which wouldn’t be much of anything to pay attention to—these are full-sized recreations.

Here’s artist Romero Britto’s take on a recent Audi model. At the time Jalopnik reported on it, it was available for sale in Miami. Definitely inspired by the BMW cars, it doesn’t quite reach their level, but isn’t bad.

This one was pretty famous in the blogosphere last year: a Lamborghini made entirely of steel tubing. It’s amazing, because the photos look exactly like something done up in a 3d program, and then inserted into real-life photos, except the entire thing is real-life.

DesignKiller is a 33 year old illustrator, graphic and product designer living in Milano, Italy. He loves women, chocolate…and the combination of both. He’s actually trying to escape from his country, seeking for the right place in one of those northern countries he always has loved since he was a child (he thinks that it’s because he had a beautiful previous life over there).

Lorenzo explains what inspired him: “First of all, I love to draw pin-up and cute sexy ladies. Secondly I’ve seen so many beautiful latex clothes around the web, so I decided to draw a series named LatexDolls”, he continues “BUT… Those pinups are a bit different, as you can see their face. Their eyes looks like they are thinking deeply, even as they are sexy and hot. They show that there is a woman inside, it’s not just a body”.

Lorenzo G created the LatexDolls Els, Naima, Martine and Audrey using a wacom graphic tablet, drawing the art in freehand. They illustrations are printed on fine-art canvas, wrapped and framed with a black wooden frame.

Moët & Chandon Marquee by PTW Architects

The Sydney, Australia based PTW Architects designed this Marquee for the champagne producer Moët & Chandon.They transformed an off-the-shelf tent into a sparkling and surreal atmosphere.

By partially letting sunlight penetrate through the fabric structure, the pavilion comes to life as an ephemeral and surreal bubble experience. The perforated ceiling filters natural light and directs it onto and through the Lycra fabric, creating the depth and translucency of the space. Light levels change constantly during the day with moving clouds and changing atmospheric conditions.

The tent, weighing just 77 pounds, folds small enough to be transportable in a sports bag; the 33-by-33-foot space can be assembled in less than one hour and is fully reusable.
While appearing solid, the structure is soft and flexible and creates highly unusual spaces that come to life with projection and lighting. Inside, the design team used digital modeling—from conceptual sketches through to finished construction plans—to replicate the frothy structure of foam with sail-like Lyrca panels.

Calvin Klein DollHouse, NY

Architect Joshua Prince-Ramus of Ramus-Ella Architects (REX) created the holiday attraction of the Calvin Klein store on 5th Avenue in New York.
The installation was created with Calvin Klein’s consumer image in mind. The stylish installation covers 4 complete floors, with a landscaped rooftop, and was constructed of acrylic sheet, steel, and stretch Spandex.

“By treating a New York street like landscape –and Calvin Klein’s storefront like a New York street –we created a detached single-family (doll)house in Manhattan for the Calvin Klein woman,” said architect Prince-Ramus.

The house is furnished with mini-versions of products from CK clothing, accessories and home collections including the furniture line that will launch in early 2009.

I received a package from Madame Rouge the other day. I tore it open excitedly to discover an OhMiBod box, containing a pink vibe, a metre long cable, a splitter & a pink velvet bag. I grabbed my iPod, stuck the splitter in the headphone jack, & then connected my headphones & the OhMiBod to it. I chose some tracks & giggled as the OhMiBod pulsed in my hand in time to Justin Timberlake.

So, what is the OhMiBod & what does it do?

“Everyone loves music. Everyone loves sex. OhMiBod combines music and pleasure to create the ultimate acsexsory™ to your iPod.”

I can’t tell you exactly how it works — not geeky enough, I’m afraid. What I can tell you is that it interprets the sounds emanating from your MP3 player & translates them into vibrations. While it sounds kind of gimmicky & silly, it soon becomes addictive & the perfection of the pairing becomes startlingly obvious.

The OhMiBod isn’t a very attractive looking object — it looks more like the end of an elf’s pointy pink shoe than anything you might want near your underpants. But I promise you, once you attach this unusual gizmo to your iPod, stereo or even laptop, you will forgive it its cosmetic misgivings.

I love my OhMiBod. A lot. It’s the ultimate toy for the aurally-fixated. I am definitely one of those people. I live, eat & breathe music, I am always listening to something new, & I am often overcome with the feeling of wanting to crawl inside my favourite songs. So conjuring up a way for a song to give me an orgasm makes me very, very happy.

You can buy an additional accessory to the OhMiBod, a “life-like” neon pink jelly skin which slides over the top… Though one might be moved to ask, “What exactly is it about a neon pink faux-phallus that is ‘life-like’?” It’s an interesting addition, & great for when you want to get a little bit more intimate with your OhMiBod. But of course it does dilute the strength of the pulsations, so if strong direct vibrations are important to you, it will probably just get in your way.

So, of course, now we get down to the crux of it. What makes a good OhMiBod song? Initially I thought it would just be something with a lot of bass, but it was not to be! Really what it’s all about — for me, anyway, ahem — is a strong, steady rhythm. Experiment at your ~~leisure~~ pleasure!

In one of the more imaginative collaborations we’ve seen of late, Christian Louboutin and David Lynch have locked heads and created a show, Fetish. The exhibition shows five limited edition pairs of shoes by Louboutin alongside five signed photographs of the shoes by Lynch. As if Louboutin’s day-to-day footwear weren’t fetishistic enough, the pair together has taken the theme to an entirely new level.

As with so many collaborations, things moved very quickly. The process began when Lynch commissioned Louboutin to make shoes for an exhibition he was hosting at the Cartier Foundation back in March this year. The pair quickly became friends and when Louboutin wanted to push the notion of extreme fetish in his work, by creating shoes and then playing with their creative representation in two-dimensional images, it was clear Lynch would be the man to translate his vision.

‘I tried to keep an element of my drawings, to be faithful to the drawings, with no practicality, just pleasure, thinking of extreme fetish shoes. Usually when you go to the third dimension you lose something,’ explains Louboutin of his initial concept, ‘then I wanted to photograph them - I find there’s more emotion with cinematic images. I wanted Lynch’s style and since we’d recently become friends it was natural for me to ask him.’

The designer has an atelier where the one-of-a-kind shoes are created. With practicality and comfort out the window, Louboutin has pushed the designs to their limits: think 26cms heels, spikes on the inside and sole of the shoe, and Siamese heels (two shoes fused at the heel).

The idea is that the shoe becomes a cult object, transcending the most beautiful part of the shoe and/or foot. Louboutin pinpoints ‘The Siamese shoe’ as his favourite, ‘For me the shoe and the picture together become very close to Twin Peaks.’
